2 Timothy 4:1-5
INTRODUCTION:
In this letter from Paul to Timothy we see why we should preach the word and what happens if we do not.
1. We need to always be ready to reprove, rebuke, and exhort with patience and teaching.
A. Let’s look at 2 Timothy 4:1-5 and see what we need to do in our lives as Christians. B. We have to: 1. Reprove 2. Rebuke 3. Exhort C. Why do we do we do these three things? 1. To prevent false teaching of God’s word and to teach others the truth of God’s word.
BODY:

There are too many people that think they deserve to be catered to. A. If we preach the word like we are supposed to, we very well may hurt some’s feelings, or anger them - 2 Timothy 4:2; Galatians 4:16. 1. So what! B. Today, too many people want to hear a feel good sermon. 1. One that they want and not really what the Bible teaches so they get teachers to suit them - 2 Timothy 4:3, 4. C. Healthy teaching means teaching that will make them more godlike – 1 Timothy 1:10; 6:3.
7. We as Christians we need to remember to be sober-minded, endure hardship, and to continue doing the work of an evangelist to fulfill our ministry. A. We need to be steady and level headed in our work 1 Timothy3:2,11. B. As more and more false teachers are asked for today the true teachers of the word will suffer hardship and will be persecuted for standing up for the truth. 1. Paul spoke of suffering to Timothy in 1 Timothy 1:8; 2:3,9. C. The work of an evangelist is one that proclaims the good news of the Gospel of Christ – Acts 21:8; Ephesians 4:11.
8. All Christians have a ministry to fulfill like Timothy had. A. God has designated that all Christians be preachers and teachers of his word 1 Peter
