Timoteo Ha’alilio was born in Oahu on 1808 into a family of high rank due to his mother’s marriage that led to her becoming the Governess of Molokai. He moved to Hilo when he was 8 years old and became great friends with the soon to be King Kamehameha III, who he served for all his life. Timoteo learned to read at 13 thanks to Mr. Hiram Bingham, and by the time it was 1821 he learned English, Hawaiian, arithmetic, and writing/penmanship. His writing allowed for him to be a clerk to the King. This was not the only role Timoteo would serve, because he had a greater expenditure that awaited him. In April, 1842 he accompanied Sir George Simpson and Mr. Richards with the task of journeying to capture the Independence of Hawaii . As they set
