Sex Abuse Case Summary

For my reaction on a trial hearing, I decided to write about the Larry Nassar's Sex Abuse Case. The reasoning on why I chose this specific case was because how it dealt with issues of sexual abuse, female empowerment, and how justice was finally served. This case was brought into the mainstream news because the amount of individuals affected by this case and how it occurred for so long without any consequences. I saw this case as groundbreaking because Nassar was properly punished for all his wrongdoings and it opened the conversation of how sexual assault needs to be spoke about in order to bring it to an endstopped. From January 16 to 24 in 2018, 156 women read Victim Impact Statements. I watched a video of the first testimony by Kyle Stephens, previously identified only as "Victim Z.A.", of the several testimonies in this case ("Comprehensive Timeline of the Larry Nassar Case"). Stephens was one of the first victims to come to the stand to speak about the abuse she received at the hands of Nassar and was also the only victim to not be part of the USA Gymnastics team. There was more than enough evidence to bring truth to all the victim's claims and Nassar knew of his wrongdoings but continued to abuse girl after girl. Nassar pleaded guilty in this case but mentioned how he was manipulated into this and that the girls were actually lying ("Larry Nassar Sentenced to up to 175 Years in Prison 2"). If I was the judge in this case, I would've made Nassar apologize to each victim he affected and tell them he takes full responsibility instead of cowardly hiding his face in court and looking the victims' in their eyes as they spoke. Overall, this case has showed me how society is finally recognizing that women around the world are suffering and need support after they go through hardships, such as the victims of Nassar, and not be ignored any
