Cynthia Ozick once said, "We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude." We may not want to believe it but this is absolutely true. Everyone has done it. Your parents drive you anywhere and everywhere without a thank you. The nice person who holds the door open for you every morning that receives a grumpy, mumbled "Thanks." Also, your best friend who stays with you through every high and low point, but rarely receives an "I appreciate you." We 've all been in those positions. Even if we didn 't realize it until now. He thought, "This can 't go on forever, let 's go around it!" He and his crew set sail around the wall. Creak! Splash! Those noises started them. They turned to see the wall had opened and a fat demigod with a swirly beard and red face stood there. "Hooligans! On my island uninvited yet guests at the same time. Ulysses! I 've heard of you! Why are you here?" Ulysses explained how they were traveling back from the Trojan War. Aeolus was very intrigued. He ushered them into the island just to hear more. They rested their for a month treated like royalty. In exchange, they told stories about Troy. The battles, abductions, tricks, and duels. After all the stories, Ulysses asked for a favor. "Aeolus, I need your help. Help us get home." Aeolus ushered Ulysses away into private. He gave him a sack tied with a gold strip. "Don 't let this go. It has the East, North, and South winds. The West wind will push home." Ulysses thanked him. He gathered his crew and they were on their way with a final goodbye. The rest of the sailors were eyeing the sack. They were jealous that their captain got something and they did not. Ulysses saw this. He decided that he must not sleep until land so that they will not free the winds. After a couple of days, he finally caught sight of land. His eyes slowly closed shut. The sailors took their chance.

That being said, if things like human trafficking and racial discrimination can still be found in today’s modern world, then unfair…

While the men were heading back to Ithaca, Zeus sent a massive storm to wreck their ship. Odysseus described this by stating, “Zeus… with thunder and lightning together crashed on our vessel… my men were thrown in the water… and the god took away their homecoming,” (XII: 415-419). This scene is significant because Zeus completely changed the companions’ fate. Instead of letting them sail back home safely and reunite with their families as they planned to, Zeus broke apart their ship and let the men drown. However, this scene is also significant because Odysseus was able to use his godlike strength to change the fate the gods planned for him.…

It does not take long for the reader to see that the Ithaca Ulysses left, was not the same place when he returned. Ulysses expected an uproar and parades to be thrown over his return, but yet he is met with savages who do not remember his image or name. Ulysses clearly expresses his disappointment in his people saying "I mete and dole Unequal laws to a savage race, That hoard, and sleep, and feed, and know not me"(Lines 3-5). The old king sees his shinning past corrupted with the rust of time and faded memories. Furthermore, this angers Ulysses to the point that he begins to cull everything about his kingdom saying "It little profits an idle king, by this still hearth, among these barren crags"(Lines 1-2).…
