In “A Sound of Thunder” by Ray Bradbury, the author explores the idea that the choices we make can affect others, not just ourselves, in order to show how we as humans deal with the consequences of our choices. Bradbury first introduces this theme when he says that “a touch of the hand and this burning would, on the instant, reverse itself.” This quote shows how small actions can cause much larger consequences. What the author is doing is trying to caution the reader to be aware of how a small action on their part can affect their future. The story progresses until it reaches the point where Eckels, the protagonist, sees the monstrous Tyrannosaurus that he paid to kill.…

On the first page of Thunder at the Gates it says, “A nation does not know it’s strength until tested by calamity.” This statement, repeated continuously throughout history, begins the story of the 54th and 55th Massachusetts Infantry and the 5th Massachusetts Cavalry. The author, Douglas R. Egerton, tells the story of some of the most fiercest fighters of the civil war, the all African American regiments of the Massachusetts infantry and how, as they fought for the union, they strived for the right to be considered a person. The book Thunder at the Gates tells the story of the nearly 200,000 men who fought for 3 Massachusetts regiments during the civil war.…

Nobody’s perfect. Perfection is a utopian quality that is far from realistic as it means “without fault or flawless.” Therefore, stating that nobody’s perfect is just another way of rewording the phrase everybody has their flaws. In my book, The Time Machine, when the Time Traveler goes into the future, he meets creatures that are human, but much smaller and seem to be not very smart. However, the Time Traveler still talks to them to learn more about their home, he finds flowers and fruits he's never seen before. The creatures still seem to have the same rights, but there is no government and they don't seem to be working at all. The amendments from the Constitution still seem to apply to them, but they don't really need them, they are peaceful and seem to be able to do anything they want. First of all, the first and second amendments.…

Throughout history, time travel has been seen as an idea of the future, but that we are far along from it. In the short story “A Sound of Thunder” by Ray Bradbury, it made that idea possible. Taking place in 2055, the idea of time travel has long been mastered and is now used to recreational purposes. In this situation, it was being used for hunting extinct animals from the past, without messing up the future or the past in anyway. They were very diligent when this operation took place to make sure nothing was altered or major consequences would have taken place.…

In the short story “A Sound of Thunder” there was a lot of foreshadow used. It seems like the most used one of all was the exaggerated importance of staying on the path and not doing anything that could possibly change the future. Travis used the phrase “stay on the path” at least four times in the beginning of the story. This is a huge hint that Eckels would possibly go off the path later on in the story, and also because he seemed to be unconvinced that it was a big deal saying things like “So what” and “Why not.”…

In La Jetee, my interpretation of watching the film was a young man traveling in time as an experiment. Although as I continue watching, there are details within the film such as the background sounds, transitions of photos, and the still photos that give a deeper meaning than of a Sci-fi movie shown this year. In this essay, I will explain how La Jetee uses transitions as well as background sounds to emphasize the still images meaning of time and reality. Chris Marker creates an illusion of time and memory within the making of La Jetee. This film shows a contrast of sci-fi films compared to the more modern ones.…
