Time To Volunteer In Schools

Decent Essays
I have volunteered for a lot of projects at my school that helps with giving back to the community through education. Such as providing students who are less fortunate with items they need in school such a new pencils or books. I’ve been making the effort to make time to volunteer with more services that pertain to children. Their lives are just starting and we can teach them more at an early age so that they can use it for the rest of their lives. Due to recent changes within my household such as acquiring a new job I haven’t been able to volunteer for longer periods of time and create a bigger impact that I want. At least I offer my services for a couple hours a week so that I can fulfill my need to help others and gain the satisfying feeling

I volunteered at the Forest Mall for the Tootsie Roll Drive. This organization provides service for those people with intellectual disabilities. What I physically did while volunteering at the Forest Mall was hand out Tootsie Rolls outside to the people that donated money. I also would kindly ask people to donate as they came in or out of the mall. I kept a kind and loving smile on my face to welcome anyone who was willing to donate.…

Every week, I always attend the meeting that presents new opportunities for community service. Some volunteer events that I have participated in over the course of the past two years are the Tualatin Food Pantry, Race for the Cure, Project Jumpstart, and the student store. Some ways I offer service outside of school is by being assistant to an art teacher every week and volunteering at the Beaverton Foodbank occasionally. I work with elementary aged kids that have an interest in art. At the beginning and end of each class, I will set up examples of sketches and books where the children can get inspiration from and also put out the supplies that the children will need such as paper, pencils of various lead hardness, paints, or paint…

Adversity on the human spirit can be difficult situation arise almost daily in the lives of most individuals. It is at this point that individuals have to make a choice, either to allow themselves to be devastated, or to rise above their difficulties, and allow their true spirit to return to them. The poem “Pessimist” by James Lasdun, the speaker reflects on how despite adversity, one can remain optimistic, even though the individual thinks pessimistic there will always be happiness.…

Volunteering at Veterans Affairs Medical Center was one of the greatest experience I've ever had. Sitting down with the elderly and getting to know them, I noticed if more teens could actually sit down and take the time to talk to an elderly person they could gain an opulent amount of knowledge. Sitting down and getting to talk an innumerable amount of veterans as I could, I was intrigued by how each person had a story of their own going through WWII. Voluntarily, I was able to contribute to the organization by having open conversations with the veterans, providing beverages, and having a great time. It wasn't till the end of the program when my perception began to change about the organization I volunteered for, it's more than just about kids…

I am truly honored as being a nominee for the Easton Chapter National Honor Society. The standards that must be proven to be nominated by this prestigious society are an example of the hard work and dedication I have exemplified in school. Throughout my years of schooling, I have tried my hardest to get good grades, while also demonstrating the characteristics that make up the National Honor Society; they are leadership, service, and character. While I have exhibited all three throughout my educational career, I feel that my service characteristic stands out above the rest. Service can mean many things, but to me, it means helping someone perform a task they can’t complete themselves, sacrificing your time, and assisting the less fortunate.…

We spent a whole day at my school doing simple tasks such as garden cleaning, moving old furniture, covering graffiti, repainting old walls and stairwells. In the end, volunteering had a huge impact not only on me but also the community around me. It enabled me to connect with my community and make my school a better place. I realized that helping out with the simplest and smallest tasks can make a drastic difference in society. If we were to lose physical space, people would surrender their desire to obtain public good.…

The pillars of National Honor Society, Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character, have greatly influenced my goals and self-expectations. Throughout my academic career, I have been fortunate to grasp new concepts quickly without much effort. Despite how blessed I am to have this ability, I do not rely solely on its advantages. I enjoy fully understanding new concepts, not simply learning enough to achieve an A. In this way, I believe I do pursue the quest for knowledge, rather than just the reward and thereby have implemented the Scholarship pillar in my education.…

In order to raise money for prom this year, I accompanied the class of 2019, for 5.5 hours, to a west point game and worked in concessions. I had a great experience working with my peers to achieve a goal that would benefit the senior class. Recently I have engaged in service with my church, for 4 hours, helping to move furniture while they were switching locations. From this experience I learned that sacrificing my time for a communal effort may seem minuscule, but ultimately helps increase efficiency. Also I volunteered at the annual Easter egg hunt at memorial park last weekend for 3.5 hours.…

Just because someone may be working, it may be tough for that particular person to afford the basic necessities in life. This is true for many people across Ontario, as one in five people spend more than thirty percent of their income on housing (Housing Affordability, 2016). Due to this high number, many people across Ontario, rely on the government and organizations to help them attain the basic necessities such as food and shelter. This is why volunteers for non-profit organizations are critical for the survival of many Canadians. In addition to volunteers, affordable housing is crucial as the prices in the private market rental are simply too high for many Canadians.…

My most meaningful involvement in a student organization was when I was in Gator EMS (Emergency Medical Service). In this organization, all the members were required to have an EMR (Emergency Medical Responder) certification and used the certification to volunteer at sporting events such as swimming meets and 5k runs held at my undergraduate university. While working toward my certification, I acquired knowledge and skills necessary for the assisting people in emergency situations. Gator EMS provided a sense of community and camaraderie that I was able to translate into my volunteering. Having the task of providing care for potentially injured at injured athletes gave me a sense of responsibility and aided my growth and maturation of character.…

An elderly woman who got to take part in a high school community service project states, “Many think that volunteering is all about what you give. But what catches you by surprise is how much you receive in return.” This demonstrates why many people do not feel that they should give back because they do not believe the benefits that they can get from it as well. Consequently, when creating that feeling of happiness and satisfaction in someone else’s life, it comes back to the person creating it. Volunteering to help someone get tutored, help the handicapped, involve themselves with a program like Meals on Wheels, certain environmental work, etc., not only does one gain from that, but one’s community has been helped because of them.…
