In the article “Brainology” written by Carol Dweck, she explains that our brains are changing constantly and how intelligence isn't a fixed value if we have the right mindset. We can all change the way we view the world and it's challenges if we believe we can with hard work. Dweck mentions that “many students believe intelligence is fixed, that each person has a certain amount and that's that”(Brainology). In my American government class, we use the term political socialization to describe the influence one’s family has on their own political identity. Although the political aspect of political socialization remains exclusive to the term, the concept that families have a profound influence on the social development of children is wide-ranging, even helping explain people's perceived value of a college education. I was born in Germany with a German mother and an American father. The benefit of being born into a German family and living in Europe for the first ten years of my life was the greatest privilege I experienced throughout my sixteen years of living. However, my father was in the military at the time causing for a slight pressure to always be prevalent for the duration of my younger years. This mainly revolved around the fact that my sister was able to grow up in Germany and I wanted that same opportunity.
