He says “Luce and Hadden wanted to break the news down into categories with each category delivering short punchy news pieces that the busy consumer could quickly understand and absorb” (Wallace). Luce and Hadden were really giving what the customers wanted, the need to know news of the week. The Duo wanted to grab the reader’s attention with the highlighting of their weekly news, so they decided to change the name from “Facts” to “Time” to better fit their goal (Wallace). Since the beginning of American journalism, there has been a relationship between the reader and journalist of supply and demand. The reader wants scandalous or critical news and the journalist is happy to provide. In the 1960s, Clare Boothe Luce, in a speech made for the journalists in Women's National Press Club, criticizes the journalists for their seemingly mindless continuation of the supply and demand cycle. Luce challenges them to focus on the complete truth, rather than a fantastical half-truth. She prepares the audience for this message by beginning with a metaphor that emphasizes the importance of her message, using an ironic tone, not to be missed by the journalists, and by using ethos to remind the journalists what their responsibilities entail.…

The written task for The Things They Carried has the form of a tabloid cover. A big part of the book is O’brien repeatedly trying to explain to both the reader and himself that memories cannot always be trusted, but ultimately through storytelling he can save himself and possibly his memories. Therefore the tabloid paper itself will talk about methods soldiers often use to deal (like storytelling) when they come back from war, and include enticing details from an interview with the author. The title of my tabloid is American Horror Story, which is relevant to the theme of the tabloid cover.…

In the magazine article, the author uses specific diction, imagery and personification to convey a shifting mood from a celebratory reunion with his constantly changing hometown to a reflective and disappointed remembrance, but eventual acceptance of his hometown while he was growing up. In the first part of the passage, the author creates a mainly joyful tone while writing about the place that he used to live as a child. The author writes about the lawns that “curves around” his grandfather’s house and talks about his body “steaming in the cold air.” These two examples of diction and imagery provide an insight into the feelings of comfort and security the author feels coming to his home again.…

In 1994 the magazine was lighter and changed from saddle stitched to perfect bound, meaning it went from stapled to glued. This change will give the magazine a flat spine instead of a tapered edge. On the other hand, the 2015 magazine is heavier, glossy and a sleek page design. The revisions give the magazine a more professional look. Since the pages are smaller, the articles are less cluttered and are more than likely broken up with…
