Time Enough For Drums Character Analysis

Have you ever taken the time to sit down and read the enthralling novel Time Enough For Drums? It is the story of a family in the Revolutionary War time period that faces the hardships and sorrows in their fight for freedom. In the family their are two soldiers, a father that runs a shop, a mother that writes for a newspaper, two slaves and a teenage girl with lots issues named Jemima. In the novel the main character Jemima Emerson is truly a bold, inconsiderate, and impolite girl that adds flavor to the story. She represents a great leader during that specific time period, and makes story interesting to read. At one point in the novel she is sixteen and fully running a shop, cleaning, and keeping a whole house from falling apart, during the war. Jemima displayed many character traits during the novel and one of the ones that stood out the most was how she was inconsiderate of others, and their things. John Reid, Jemima’s tutor was always a little secretive, and Jemima could be nosy sometimes. For example, John was reading his papers once and Jemima was curious to find out what they said. Jemima has a horse named Bleu and she loves riding it, but that often leaves her hungry and tired. Jemima had once burst in her house and threw her petticoat onto a chair and began to eat meat with her bare hands instead of taking the time to just put her food on a plate and setting the table for herself.
