Time Enough For Drums Character Analysis

Jemima Emerson is a very intriguing character in the novel Time Enough for Drums, by Ann Rinaldi. She was the first character that stuck out in this novel. This book shows many ups and downs regarding Jemima and her family, and the war. This book also shows a touch of love when it comes to John Reid and Jemima and Jemima and her family. Ann Rinaldi shows Jemima as rebellious. emotional and caring. To begin with, Jemima Emerson is a very rebellious character in the novel. For example, Jemima follows her own rules and people usually say that she is often found to get her way. In the novel the author writes, “No! I grabbed his sleeve again” (Rinaldi 81). This shows rebellion because to get her way she shouted “No!” to try and stop John Reid from leaving. Since Jemima did not want John to leave, she used physical strength and her voice to get her way and convince him to not leave. Jemima is often told because of her rebellion she usually gets her way. She may not always seem the emotional type, but if when she is hurt on the inside it shows on the out. When Jemima was riding to her grandfather's house she was in so much emotional pain that she started crying onto her horse.
