One of the topics that was talked about at the museum was of the tonols the Chumash rode on for catching fish and for other things. The Chumash used the tomols to paddle to the Channel Islands through long journeys. They used redwood to assemble the boats but once they ran out of the redwood they had to use whatever wood they could find and use. In order for the Chumash to connect the wood together they need to pierce some holes into the platforms so that they could stay together. Then they would add tar so that the boat would be sealed of any holes and that water couldn't get into the boat.…
The French settlers arrived in Louisiana in the 1800s with their dog beauceron. They told of strange looking dogs with haunting glass eyes that were used by the Indians to hunt game in the swamp. It is thought the Beauceron and Red Wolf/war dog were interbred to produce the Catahoula. One theory as to the origins of the breed states that the Catahoula is thought to have descended from "war dogs" (Mastiffs and Greyhounds) brought to Louisiana by Hernando de Soto in the 16th century. Dogs left behind by the explorer's party were interbred by the local natives with their domestic dogs.…
Albion State Normal School The Albion State Normal School is a supposedly haunted campus in Albion, Idaho. Also know as the Haunted Mansions of Albion, the Albion State Normal School is a haunted attraction only 24 minutes from the town of Burley, Idaho. Mālama ʻĀina O Kaho’olawe Kaho’olawe is an island that was illegally taken over by the U.S Military. It was later returned to the people of Hawaii in horrible condition. Less than one month ago, the infamous killer whale Tilikum, died from health issues. Studies have discovered that orcas in their natural habitat live a life span as long as humans. Tilikum perished in captivity at less than half of this age. During his restraint, he had been responsible for the death of three people. It was a warm spring night in April 2015 when Thabo Sefolosha life was changed forever. After helping the Atlanta Hawks defeat the Knicks. Sefolosha, and his former teammate Pero Antic, had a run in with the NYPD outside of celebrity heavy 1Oak night club in New York City. The blacker the college, sweeter the knowledge. As kids, we see shows and movies such as A Different World and School Daze then imagine attending an HBCU being fun and adventurous. Not realizing and understanding the essence of having a place in the world where you can relate with people of different shades of melanin and personalities. The mission of an Historically Black College or University is to give blacks the opportunity of higher learning and allow them to graduate with multiple job lineups. From my perspective, an HBCU should make you feel more welcome than a PWI would, make you feel wanted and appreciated.…
