A Reflection: The Danger of a Single Story As most people, my story consists of an abundance of struggle, trial and error, and also lessons. These challenges, in addition to the lessons, have brought upon stress, anxiety, and even depression into my life. They have made me question myself to the point of insanity, avoid meeting and accepting new people into my life, and even fail to uphold the bonds I had previously made with both relatives and peers. However, I cannot be defined and bound to the “single story” of my anxiety. There are many more complex stories that represent me even more adequately than the ones that correspond to the struggles I’ve faced; as there are many more stories significant to other various people, places and things…

In 2017, approximately four million international citizens marched in cities around the world in a protest of gross gender discrimination that permeates every level of society. However, the mere notion of national suffrage for women was not guaranteed until the ratification of the nineteenth amendment in 1920. Even then, modern day gender-centric topics, such as reproductive rights and equal wages for equal work, were nowhere near the public limelight. With the rise of women on the homefront during World War Two, the women’s rights movement once again gained serious traction, but the movement’s success was short lived. Despite ambiguous advocacy on the part of well-known author Tennessee Williams and his revolutionary play A Streetcar Named…

Removed from the cesspit of Eden, with nightmares behind him, and a beautiful woman on his arm who enjoyed his company and that he could make smile with simply a word, touch or a glance, Kyle felt as if he inhabited a dream. One that he never wanted to wake from. Azairah D'Amici desired to be with him; Kyle Evans, the emotionally detached, damaged murderer, whose motto for the last few years had been, Trust no-one, care for no-one, get close to no-one, allow no-one to get close, and you can't be hurt; and appreciated what he could offer. That helped prove to Kyle that, after Amy, and all else that occurred, he did, indeed, have something to offer, and in turn, was worthy of Azairah's companionship, not just of being forever alone. He trusted her completely, and that her reactions and words were sincere, and together, they occupied a world of their own.…

Good Fellas is a highly sophisticated film, which revolves around the lives of mobsters Henry Hill, Tommy DeSimone, and James (Jimmy) Conway, the film shows the situations and progressions the gang has encountered while growing up in the mean streets of Manhattan. The elegance of this film came from the quality dynamics provided by the director, cinematographer and editor also including the highly complex personality of Tommy’s character. With the team’s accomplishments, the film crew portrayed a good sense of what the mob life was like in the 1950s and 1960s and made it to be one of the most realistic gangster movies of all times. Tommy DeSimone is one of the most intriguing characters in the film and is fascinating to see the stressful situations…

I had a deep emotional reaction to this film. It was shocking, heartbreaking and seemingly unreal all at the same time.
