Procrastination is a serious discussion procrastination puts stress on the body, increases heart rate when the deadlines come close and increase the adrenaline being pumped. Does anyone know why people tend to procrastinate with anything and everything (with the exception of those special people who actually take care of business when its needed to be done)? Tim Urban’s TedTalk from 2016 about procrastination is directed towards everyone, and I mean everyone because according to him everyone is a procrastinator. His speech is intended to inform his audience what procrastination is, with pretty little pictures and characters including the Instant Gratification Monkey, Rational Decision Maker, and the Panic Monster. I agree to an extent with …show more content…
Jaffe (2013) discusses that there is a gap between the intention and taking action with tasks, teenagers seem to do this a lot. They may plan on doing something but then never really get around to doing in until the deadline is near. He states, “The idea is that procrastinators calculate the fluctuating utility of certain activities: pleasurable ones have more value early on, and tough tasks become more important as a deadline approaches,” (Jaffe, 2013, para. 12). For further explanation, teenagers say they are going to do something but do not realize that they need enough time to finish the tough tasks that should come first but end up coming after the fun activities. In addition, making this approach natural to teenagers because, the majority of the time, end up putting fun things first. Psychologist Joseph Ferrari (2010) writes that one of his favorite quotes is “everyone procrastinates but not everyone is a procrastinator” and he states that the research shows there are chronic procrastinators, which means they procrastinate on every aspect of their lives such as work, home, school, and relationships (Ferrari 2010). In other words, there are just regular procrastinators who may just procrastinate in a few aspects of their lives and isn’t that serious and then …show more content…
An additional fact to create some credibility of Urban’ argument is how Pickhardt (2009) also basically says there are two types “resistant procrastination when a delay results in putting a task off until the last minute before finally getting it done… refusal procrastination… permanent hold and it never gets done,” (Pickhardt, 2009, para. 2). Strictly speaking, many people are saying this which contributes to how widely known this is and the credibility of these people. Also saying that it is natural for teens to do this and do either one of these types of procrastination. Something that is equally important is the thought that some teens may think to doubt their ability to do something in the middle of the task being done when all that is needed is hard work, and so basically, they say they will do it later but just give up so a permanent

Have you ever been a victim of procrastination? More than likely, it’s safe to say that everyone has procrastinated at some point in time. For some, however, this tends to become a habit. In “This Was Supposed to Be My Column for New Year’s Day”, by John Tierney, and “The Procrastination Doom Loop--and How to Break It”, by Derek Thompson, opposite opinions are shown in an attempt to defend their beliefs. Thompson’s, however, appeared as more accurate.…

The author's main message of this article is to explain to the non-procrastinators of the world what goes on in the heads of procrastinator's and why we are this way. The author had a hypothesis which was that the brains of procrastinators are different from the people who are not. To test this he went to an MRI lab with a non-procrastinator and both people got scanned which proved his hypothesis. He explained in both brains there was a rational Decision-Maker, the section in your brain that makes all the main decisions such as doing a writing assignment like this one. Another message is that you are advised to be aware of the Instant Gratification monkey because it known to pull sneaky tricks to make you do foolish things like playing video…

In Proverbs the word sluggard means lazy, the warnings given against being a sluggard were that if one overslept and and got lazy with their duties they would become poor, metaphorically as well as realistically. Procrastination is related to being a sluggard because one does not work when one should and wastes time. Some causes of being a sluggardly person would be, having things that one would rather do, not wanting to exert the effort on something that seems so far away, and the pertinence of the situation not yet dawning. Some people procrastinate more than others because others see the importance of getting things done early, they have goals and people who rely on them while others don't have those things they only have to worry about…

But each of the problems we face has potential self- control mechanisms, as well” (146). This means that all of us deal with problems with procrastination, but it can be for different reasons. Hamlet struggled on whether to kill himself or to act and get revenge on his father's murder. If he had thought logically for a little, then acted then he would of been better off, but instead he waited forever on deciding what to do and it cost him his…
