One time Tim volunteered to help the community was when he made his annual haunted house for people to go to on halloween for free. Philip Zimbardo once said, “People who become heroes tend to be concerned with the well being of others” (Cherry). Tim wanted people to be happy. He created a haunted house where people could have fun and get scared for free in town, so people wouldn’t have to go far away as well as pay money just to go to one. For the community it was positive in many ways. Not only did it give a lot of people something to do instead of getting into trouble, but it also introduced people to volunteering. Everyone who worked in the haunted house was a volunteer or a student who wanted to help do this. Anyone who wanted to could help work in it could and everyone was always included. According to a five year study by Big Brothers Big Sisters Canada, “mentoring made girls and boys four and two times less likely to be bullies respectively. More things it did was it made the kids involved more confident. They were also less worried about school, less likely to submit to what other people want them to do, and caused kids to overall act better” (Price-Mitchell). Tim says he enjoys being someone who matters to the kids he is mentoring, and being someone they can count on. He thinks that if he can make even a small difference in someone’s life that small difference could influence them
