Imagine a town that only enjoys new, a golden ticket that can give you fame and fortune, and a potion that can shrink you. This is the world of Tim Burton. Tim Burton has used many techniques in his films, but we will be talking deeper into 3 of the techniques as he changes feeling with lighting, music/sound, and framing. Burton uses lighting in certain ways to change the feeling of the film at certain times, and moments. An example of the use of lighting can be shown in the three films, in “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” there is dark lighting in the tunnel to the factory entrance, this gives a feel of underestimation to the viewer. In "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” the music is wondrous us and the factory entrance is giving a good mood. This effect is given off because when the music is by diegetic or non-diegetic, a perspective can change. In "Edward Scissorhands,” the music is suspenseful during the time of the break-in, which gives the viewer is a feeling of sympathy towards Edward. The music makes the viewer scared for Edward because it seems, by the music, that he won't get out, giving the effect of sympathy. In "Alice in Wonderland,” the music is fast-paced and eery during the great battle, this gives the viewer a sense of hectic moments. The music of the battle makes the viewers heart race, and beat faster, as the battle carries, while without music it may not. And "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” framing is used to show the importance of certain things, and give the viewers astonishment, such as when the factory is open. Framing can show a lot, yes, but it usually tries to convey something in this case, it was to astonish the viewer. In "Edward Scissorhands,” framing is displayed in many instances, for example, when Peg is alone with Edward in the mansion and give suspense to the viewer. The framing has a way to show the viewers that Peg is not strong, because when she is in the center of a large room, it gives the viewers a suspenseful feeling. In "Alice in Wonderland,” framing is used on the castles and the kingdoms to show that the good side seems more pure than the other. In the film, the castles are shown fully to show the elegance, and give the viewer a feeling of awe. Burton is a great director when it comes to framing, but even though he's great at one, he is also amazing with other
