The Vietnam War was a war that was catastrophic. By catastrophic it means 58,000 Americans were killed and 304,000 were wounded out of the 2.7 million that served in the war. When draft letters were sent out some people responded were fresh out of high school, which means that they really didn’t want to go to war, but were forced to unless they were willing to flee to another country or serve prison time. In the texts “On the Rainy River” and “The Greatest: My Own Story” by Tim O’Brien and Muhammad Ali, it shows their perspectives on the Vietnam war which were responses to the draft letters they received in the mail. In “On the Rainy River” Tim O’Brien talks about the thoughts that were going through his mind when he received the draft letter.…
7. SNC gave a great five paragraph order it was very detailed and straight to the point. SNC clearly articulated what he expected from each member of his fire team and assigned each member a task. SNC did lack a sense of urgency throughout the entire evolution that slowed down the progression of the mission. SNC was able to maintain great control of his fire team through decisive decision making during the execution.…
A 36-year-old Dominican man with a chief symptom of back pain comes to see me for the first time. As his new internist, I tell him, I have to learn as much as I can about his health. Could he tell me whatever he thinks I should know about his situation? And thenIdomybestnottosayaword, nottowritein his chart, but to absorb all that he emits about his life and his health. I listen not only for the content of his narrative, but for its form — its temporal course, its images, its associated subplots, its silences, where he chooses to begin in telling of himself, how he sequences symptoms with other life events.…

The narrator’s presentation of the events is unreliable and uncreditable. This is because, the narrator is unreliable because, he is too unsophisticated. According to the article, “The Outsider”, “I must have lived years in this place, but I cannot measure the time.” This shows that the narrator can’t tell time so, there is no way to no how much time has gone by in any of the events that happens. The narrator says that he can’t remember most of his life.…

Daniel Deneau’s criticism over “The story of an Hour,” proposes that Louise Mallard experienced something ecstatic, physical, and spiritual. Deneau quotes Kate Chopin when explaining the changes Louise Mallard felt since she learned of her husband’s death. Daniel Deneau has some valid points regarding what Louise Mallard experienced however, I disagree with some aspects of his argument. Deneau explains the ecstatic experience Louise Mallard felt as being a great shock. The author states, “All readers should agree, Louise Mallard receives a great shock, goes through a rapid sequence of reactions, is in a sense of awakened and then seems to drink in ‘a very elixir of life’ (354), and finally receives another shock, a reversal, which proves lethal”…

Freedom is the option of have the right to make your own choices. Having such freedom to be able to choose on our own is a right that many do not have because of situational circumstances. In the short story “A Story of an Hour” by Kate Chopin the reader sees a woman morns for her husband’s death. In the poem “To His Coy Mistress” by Andrew Marvell a nameless man ask a nameless women to be with him even though a woman cannot be with a man before she was married during that time period. A play Oedipus the King by Sophocles explains how a Greek King must choose between facing his faith and his choice of free will.…
The Bridge did not avoid the classical linear narrative where strong causality linked the past with the present and future. The Bridge’s narrative was developed through a four-line structure (A: B: C: D). Each letter corresponded to a storyline. Each one of these lines function in parallel, but they did not necessarily have the same salience for the narrative or the same duration in each episode. For example, A was the most significant, B less, and so on.…
