Till We Are Asked To Rise Analysis

Throughout teenage years, we are often asked where we want to go and what we want to do with our short time on Earth. When faced with this question, most people reply with a very specific list of their hopes and dreams. However, what happens when your life takes an unexpected turn or you are forced to take a leap of faith but don't land where you wanted? You, along with everyone else in this world, has wanted something they can't have at one point, and it usually ends in disappointment. Having an open mind and letting life take you where you're meant to be will allow your dreams to not be destroyed by the reality of your experiences. When you don't close yourself off from other paths, you give yourself the ability to see that dreams are destroyed everyday due to the need of society's approval and the fear of failure.

The need of approval from the people around us has been engraved into our heads since the day we were born. Whether it is admitted or not, approval from society gives people a sense of recognition, appreciation, and confidence. Emily Dickinson says in one of her poems "We never know how high we are/ Till we are asked to rise". To me, this quote means that humans don't pay too much attention to their self worth until a peer points

Terri Trespicio says "if you fail at passion, you fail at life". This fear of failure involves not living up to the expectations that are set for you. Since I was a little girl, I had dreamed of being an actress. While I was growing up and finding myself out, I did a few acting jobs here and there. When I started high school, I followed my childhood dream and auditioned for and made it into the theatre II elective class. Since being a part of the Valencia High Theatre Department, I've come to the conclusion that I am not capable to put in the proper amount of work and dedication to pursue an acting
