Nag was waiting for one of the humans to come into the bath tub so that he could kill them. Rikki-Tikki bit Nag and didn’t let go until the big man shot Nag into two pieces. The resolution was killing Nagaina. When Rikki-Tikki killed Nagaina he also broke all of her eggs so that there would be no more cobras. Doing this made the garden safe from snakes, no snake would try to take on Rikki-Tikki ever again. Rikki-Tikki-Tavi made a whole garden safe from snakes for a long time, and he would save his family from any snakes that come into the garden that mean killing.
