You should always make the choice that feels right to you. When you make decisions you should trust your instincts. Eli the main character from, The Compound, written by S.A. Bodeen, did this well. He knew his dad was trying to hide something from him. When he started finding clues in his dad´s office, he started to realize his dad has been keeping secrets from his own family for the last six years while they were in the compound.…

The Big Muddy It is the longest river in all of North America and the fourth longest in the World. It runs through a total of 31 different states and 2 Canadian provinces. The river has served as a main route of transportation and trade throughout the history of the U.S. as well as a border and a communication route. I’ve been to the Mississippi in Minnesota and Missouri and it is a big, muddy, slow moving river with about as much history as a river can have. Now in the book, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, which is one of the greatest pieces of text in all of American literature, ever!…
On an asphalt baseball field in Brooklyn, two teams from local Yeshivah schools meet. At first, it just seems like a baseball game between two Jewish high school teams. But the game quickly turns into a holy war when the caftan and ear lock wearing Hasidic team begins to taunt and bully the less conservative “hell-bound sinners” on the other team. Hate boils as Danny Saunders, the leader of the Hasidic team, purposely hits a pitch right back at the pitcher, crushing his glasses and landing him in the hospital for a week. This is how Chaim Potok 's book The Chosen begins.…
Girragundji helped the narrator by making him grow up and have the strength to confront his fears. This made the narrator more secure to start a relationship. This is shown through narrative conventions. Girragundji is a green tree frog. This little Girragundji helped the narrator change his life and identity.…
As a rule, what surrounds a character in a book, either a different culture, or geography, tends to change their moral principles. Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, is a perfect example of how even though someone has everything they need, they can end up doing insane things. Mccandless, the main character, is affected by extreme environmental surroundings, because his thinking shifts from being brave to feeling morally guilty . Cristopher, used to have all he wished, but because of his solipsistic personality, this wasn't enough.…
When one observes a profile picture, one tends to see optimistic, attractive traits to showcase that they have their life together. Everyone tends to parade their best self, a disguise of sorts. Long ago Hawaiian bones were stolen from their sacred grave sites and distributed across Europe, America, and other locations. In America, the bones were required to be returned to their origins, but not in Europe. Within in the play, Ola Na Iwi by Victoria Kneubuhl, a character named Kawehi who’s from Hawaii is visiting Berlin, Germany; she steals the bones out of a museum.…
Speak is a coming-of-age novel about 14-year-old Melinda Sordino as she struggles with the weight of her pain as a victim of rape. Melinda is a fictional character; yet, for thousands of other girls in the world, her experiences are a vivid reality. Although I have not shared her experience, as long as there is someone that is able to relate to Melinda, I believe that Speak is a realistic representation of adolescent experience. Rape crimes are far more common than people believe it to be. According to the survey done by the National Institute of Justice, one in six American women have been the victim of an attempted or completed rape .…
Victor Frankenstein and Zeena Frome both had needs, wants, and dreams. The two are almost total opposites when coping with their desires and wants, and have different outcomes based off their decisions. Victor’s balancing of his innermost desires, or ID, his dreams and needs grew into a festering wound in his soul that could be cured with only one purpose: destroy the evil that he created. Zeena, on the other hand, seemed fixated on regression, and depended on others to do everyday living for her. Her method of balancing did not end her life, but did ruin her relationships with her cousin and her husband, Ethan.…
Another inconsiderate character that has shown that he doesn’t care what he does at all is a man named Syke. His personality trait is very self-centered because he only cares about himself and proceed to do things that would cause harm to others. Syke’s wife Delia, who angrily told him that, “Mah tub of suds is filled yo' belly with vittles more times than yo' hands is filled it” (Hurston), stating that she had fed him more than fifteen years with her hard earning money and she has never received any gratitude by him. Syke doesn’t appreciate her because he knows that he is useless, and always thinking for himself, which in this case uses violence to make him feel superior in the relationship Syke’s whole relationship with Delia was cruel since…
Jaid is an interesting little guy. I feel like he is in the serious and shy type. He does not smile about everything, but he is always happy. Most of the time he is more in the serious side. He looks like analyzed everything and he does not take everything for granted.…
A Not-So-Silver Lining The stigma of mental illness is as follows: crazy eyes, a lot of violence, mood swings every two seconds, and not a lot of friends and family to help. But, there are multiple factors and explanations for why a person is the way they are, and why they developed the mental illness that they did. Pat Solitano, a middle-aged white man with a lot of great qualities, was a happy-go-lucky kind of guy. He had a wife, a great job as a high school history teacher, and was living comfortably in the middle class.…
A Walk in The Woods: The Disconnect from Nature The problem in our society is the disconnect from nature. Many Americans are uncultured in the wild world of untamed wilderness, thus must explore outside the civilized world of home. Nature is all around us and for many Americans nature is something that has not been experienced. With the lack of understanding nature, poor health has become a way of life for many.…
Tsukuru Tazaki is a builder. His name, meaning “to make” and his profession as an engineer is indicative of that. Though Tsukuru’s name is in absolute correlation with himself, he experiences an overwhelming discontent associated with his name, a discontent attributed to the fact his name is not a color. Tsukuru believes he is colorless, empty, meaningless, while his cohort of high school friends, each graced with a name of color, depict genuine meaning and purpose for existence. When said cohort unexpectedly abandons Tsukuru, Tsukuru is sent into a vortex of despair bordering lethality.…
The focus is on the TWO daughters (Thando and Mandisa), which are very different in style, color and attitude. However Mandisa is hoping by all means to try and change Thando to reach her level. She is very loving and caring especially to her father, she said "Let me get you a glass of water"(Kani,2002:39) and she made it clear to her boyfriend (Mpho) that "It's full package you and me or nothing"(Kani,2002:11).
