By the year 2008, Tiger Woods was famous, talented, and loved by many. He was at a great point in his life, and it was looking like it could only get better. He had already won 4 masters, 3 U.S. Open’s, and many more. That year alone, he had a win percentage of 66.7% for all tournaments he entered. To add onto that, he was married to a beautiful model and the couple had a very healthy 1 year old daughter. All this would have only gotten better if it wasn’t for several mistakes made by Tiger Woods, which had a drastic effect on every part of his life. Tiger’s troubles first began on November 26, 2009, when a new edition of National Enquirer was released. The article had an attention grabbing front headline: Tiger Woods Cheating Scandal.

Tiger hated all the criticism and attention that resulted from the scandal, and it showed from his golf game. The year that this occurred, his win percentage dropped from 66.7%, all the way down to 38.9% (the majority of this 38.9% was a results of the tournaments he played in before the scandal). Then for the next year, his win percentage dropped down to 0%. He dropped out of several tournaments due to “mental and physical suffering”. He even had high hopes going into the PGA tour but couldn’t bring himself to keep playing after just 9 holes. “Tiger Woods' bid to once again be the world's best golfer suffered another setback today.” (NPR). In the Scarlett Letter, Hester Prynne’s punishment was served from the public. She was stared at whenever she was in public and verbally shunned by everyone in the town. Tiger went through a similar experience as Hester. The public heard about everything he did after the scandal made it ways to new broadcasts. Also, Tiger would have to hear about criticism from several public television channels, radio stations, and in-person interviews.
