On August 24, 2008, I began my first year of college at Tidewater Community College (TCC) pursuing a science associate degree and changed my major to applied associate of science with a concentration in Administrative of Justice. For the six semesters, I continually maintained a 3.0 or better GPA along with being apart of the Dean’s List twice. However, my last semester I had failed to uphold my academic commitment due to working full-time to support my myself financially through school. I was not able to effectively manage my time. Therefore, my overall GPA become out to be a 2.9 upon graduation. After graduating from TCC, I had enrolled in Old Dominion University (ODU). I was majoring in Criminal Justice. In my time at ODU, I was able …show more content…
The best way I saw myself doing that was going back to school. Although my past GPA, does not reflect a student who has a strong ethic, it should be taken into account that I first started school when I was eighteen-years-old. That being said, I had to pay my way through school working two jobs. Also, if I am being completely honest, I didn’t have the best attitude due to distractions along with obstacles that hampered me from putting all the effort that I had into my academics. This is what ultimately contributed to me not having the strong GPA that I so desire now to be apart of this university. I have grown tremendously in the past three years since I have graduated from ODU. I am looking to grow in my career and also make a difference. I hope the admissions office at Saint Joseph’s University can see that I am a changed individual who is constantly seeking to obtain knowledge in my own field. For example, I have received awards of recognition and appreciation from the Department of Juvenile Justice. Overall, the transformation from then until now is that I have been focused on improving my performance by utilizing my training and shadowing my superiors. It has revealed to me both my weaknesses along with sharpening my

As the season of fall approaches here at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi, I have reached the middle of my fall semester as a freshmen college student. Midterms are approaching and I am pulling my hair out due to the sleepless nights and long hours of studying for midterms. There are some students are planning activities for Halloween while I on the other hand am preparing my study guide for my Microeconomic midterm. The closest to a break I would have from school would be Thanksgiving break, and during the break I would return home and begin working for my family. I was observing students between 9 A.M. and 12P.M. on a Monday morning, September 12, 2016. I was able to observe about 15 current and prospective students. The college is located in Central City area neighborhood on Buckeye and 12 street, and most of the students at this campus are considered to be “at-risk” students. The beginning of my undergraduate career is not impressive and not worthy of holding the title of a PA. A student’s GPA is important in order to be accepted into a medical school or any other healthcare professional school, I was well aware of that, but I did not hold the maturity to excel in my academia. However, I’m grateful to realize my mistake halfway through my semester and searched for help to turn the downhill route my grades were taking. In attempts to remedy my subpar GPA, I added a second major to help with my overall GPA; however, I did not choose a major that would be considered easy, but I chose Psychology, a major that is challenging. It soon became evident of my success in throughout the rest of my undergraduate years.…

I was recognized for my hard work by being honored at the University College A-Game banquet and at the Honors Convocation when I attained Honor Roll status this year. Now, in my youth it was common for me to attend school and solely achieve the minimum when it came to grades. As an only child my mother was simply grateful I was able to pass a course and excel into the following middle school and high session. I’m embarrassed to say that those ideals led into my first few semesters of Community College; I was at a point in my life where school and receiving an education just wasn’t for me which led to me dropping all of my courses and entering the work force. I quickly learned that the life I was living, being a full time employee for Apple Inc. wasn’t what I wanted as a career and I choose to return to Nassau. Luckily my current employer, Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare, has been extremely supportive and accommodating…
