Both 'Tich Miller' and 'Partners' have many different characteristics, however, both have a similar theme. 'Partners' is a story about people splitting into pairs but one does not have a partner and just stands there, as if he never exists. The narrator gives a basic overview of the distribution of pairs. 'Tich Miller' is a story about a girl who was physically different than other kids, therefore, people never chose her to be on their team, so she was usually the last to get chosen. The story is told by another girl who normally is considered the best of the two girls who gets chosen last.

The poem 'Tich Miller' is structured differently than the poem 'Partners' so to create a different impact on the reader. In 'Tich Miller' there are 7 stanzas to tell and describe the story. The poet of 'Tich Miller' uses space to stretch and expand the story behind the poem and every stanza has 3 lines so that the mood if the poem won't change dramatically until the end where it is one line which is: "Tich died when she was twelve" and affects the theme of the poem because it's not isolation anymore, it is depression that might have been leading to suicide. On the contrary, the poem 'Partners' creates a feeling of inequality. This shown by the fact that there only two stanzas, the first one is packed with words, while, the second stanza is one word: "alone". The word reflects the meaning of it so it is "alone" itself, and connects to the theme. Despite this difference, there is a resemblance in the structure. The last lines of the two poems are standing alone. The last line in 'Partners' is :"alone" and the last line in 'Tich Miller' is: "Tich died when she was twelve" and this uses an effect to conclusively end the poem with the sudden turn of the story. Nonetheless, another difference is language. Different variations of language techniques like imagery are used in 'Tich Miller'. Description like "Tich Miller wore glasses with Elastoplast - pink frames and had one foot three sizes larger than the other" outlines what readers imagine and the picture they create in the reader's mind of how Tich looks like. Whilst 'Tich Miller' uses imagery, 'Partners' uses techniques such as: metaphors, and short sentences. The metaphor: "like stone" mirrors the way people treat the person who does not have a partner, as if he does not exist and the use of that metaphor compares him and a "stone". "Find a partner", is an example of a short sentence. It goes straight to the point and this specific one explains
