In AP Chemistry I was astounded to learn what my very existence was made of, and in AP Environmental Science I am learning of a love for the environment I never knew I had. The abundance of resources provided at universities creates an environment where experience is just as valuable as education. Therefore, receiving hands-on experience is something I am greatly looking forward to in college. Getting outside and getting my hands dirty gathering data and doing fieldwork is something I greatly enjoy doing. In fact, I already have a head start through my Senior Capstone Project centered on collecting, analyzing, and presenting water quality data along a local creek. The summer before 6th grade, I was introduced to what would become one of the greatest passions I have in life: geology. This realization occurred while I visited the Grand Canyon and Garden of the Gods National Parks in the western United States. Consequently, while I explored these natural wonders, I found I wanted to discover and know the secrets these rocks held about their geological history, their specific formations, and other geological wonders such as the Tibetan Plateau and the Door to Hell in Turkmenistan. My career path as a budding geoscientist had begun. After this vacation, I enrolled myself in more Earth Science classes, read geology textbooks in my spare time, and volunteered at the local science museum to assist with general exhibits as well as ongoing geology summer camps for young children.…
