They call themselves thrive because despite their mental conditions they will thrive through any circumstances and succeed to accomplish their objections. Thrive meaning to prosper, succeed, or flourish. As I entered the room I felt the home like feel of the association. There were about nine people including myself, who had some sort of mental condition they needed help with. The Thrive group initiated approximately three years ago in a different location somewhere in the mall. Now they initiate it on the actual association. Members of the support group tend to be consistent over time, but members come and go depending on how they feel. The head of the support group was not, Andy as I had anticipated before rather than a young counselor named Jennifer. She was sweet and welcoming to everyone who entered. She began the discussion by reading the guidelines and procedure of the group. Then initiated the whole thing with an icebreaker where everyone would participate by stating their name and a specific event they were able to succeed …show more content…
Someone who actually did experiences similar circumstances. You help each other grow by identifying with these mutual feelings. This is why I believe support groups exist. This is why I believe it is a great idea to come together as one and discuss our torments. When someone talked about a particular event in their life I would see head nodding’s and people commenting, “oh, yeah – mmhmm- you got that right.” Not only do you feel the connection, but you can see it. Other support groups I was able to look over and be a part of had a similar approach with the connection. To be quite honest you feel more sensitive and emotional to what they go through.
