Rural poverty is a big issue because of distance. There are not that many opportunities because of this distance. There are lack of jobs, educational opportunities and lack of support. The way kids grow up will determine how their life will play out. For example in “The Way to Beat Poverty” article a girl had a teen mom who was in prison for drug related offenses and she never knew her father. The girl, Jessica was very smart, but she used her intelligence to become a phenomenal liar. Jessica can be seen as a symbol of that the greatest inequality in America is not in wealth but the even greater gap of opportunity. Also in the article, it tells of how different children can grow up when they are shown affection by their parents or if they are not shown affection. When they are not shown affection they tend to be more aggressive. When a child is stressed, the body releases a chemical called cortisol and when a parent hugs a child while they are stressed it decreases the chemical in the child’s
