Three Types Of Poverty Essay

There are three types of poverty, suburban, rural and urban. Each one is different and in some places poverty is hidden. The place where poverty is hidden is in suburban areas. This is the largest setting for population for the past ten years. There houses are merely a façade to what is actually going on in the person’s life. The people will try to fit in because it brings them shame that they are poor. One example was in one of the clips when a father was living in his house with his daughters. The only way he could live there was by doing renovations on the house to keep the rent payment low. He had to go to the soup kitchen each moth also because he could not afford to go grocery shopping whenever he needed to.
Rural poverty is a big issue because of distance. There are not that many opportunities because of this distance. There are lack of jobs, educational opportunities and lack of support. In these areas there is entrenched poverty which is why so many people living in these situations are hopeless. The way kids grow up will determine how their life will play out. For example in “The Way to Beat Poverty” article a girl had a teen mom who was in prison for drug related offenses and she never knew her father. The girl, Jessica was very smart, but she used her intelligence to become a phenomenal liar. Jessica can be seen as a symbol of that the greatest inequality in America is not in wealth but the even greater gap of opportunity. Also in the article, it tells of how different children can grow up when they are shown affection by their parents or if they are not shown affection. When they are not shown affection they tend to be more aggressive.
