Three Things We’re Thankful For

In this research project we were to interview two people, and ask them one simple question “What are three things you are thankful for, and why?”, and record their responses as well as my own. Afterwards we were to create an emblem with the given responses. An emblem to me is a piece of art, or an object that is representing something or someone. For the purpose of this project I interviewed my father, Abraham, and my older sister, Zury. Here are our responses.

Let’s start off with my own. I’m extremely thankful for the following: Family, Friends, and the things I’m fortunate enough to have. Well, for starters, my family has literally been there since day one. They are always the ones I can approach for help,

“Jehovah ebuliwo m elu elu higher higher, ebuliwo m elu elu higher higher” are the lyrics to one of my favorite Igbo Christian gospels my family sings during prayer. I have always enjoyed singing the song and shouting “higher, higher” at the top of my lungs with my sisters and brother. In English, the lyrics mean “God has lifted me up higher” and I have learned to not only recognize that, but to be grateful for it as well. I am thankful to have been exposed to faith at an early age and I am also thankful for how it has impacted and influenced the women I am today. Through that and my parents impute, I continue to learn to look at the world more openly with a more optimistic stance and to be independent and self-determined.…

During the past week, I created a coat of arms that symbolized who I am as an individual. Every little detail present in this work mirrors a great deal and a more meaningful interpretations in order for me to communicate the right message and feeling to the viewers. The coat of arms is encompassed a perfect circle as a symbol of something that is whole, complete, ideal and eternal. With a shape that has no ending and no beginning, the message is somehow parallel to cyclical ideas and processes. The yin-yang symbol represents the two different phases in my life: my life in Iran and life in Canada.…

I am Grateful According to Google, gratitude is a quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return the kindness. Every year families all over the United States sit around at a dining table and have a big dinner, which includes being thankful for the wonderful things that happened to them throughout the year. Many are thankful for the new job they got, their parents always supporting them, a baby being born into the family, dad getting a raise finally after three years, or the first family vacation they took this summer, and the list can go on forever. Just like everyone else, I am thankful to have supportive friends and family who are always there for me, and enabling me to feel like I have everything that I need and I wouldn't ask for more.…

Parents don’t just love and care for us just because we are intelligent, or have a nice haircut, but because we are what we are- their children. To me, my parents represent love.…

Me, Myself, and Eric We, as human beings, tend to describe ourselves in extravagant and unnecessary ways, which is why it is important to remember our key values and what makes us, us. Although many objects can represent someone , choosing only three that truly represent one as a whole is a challenging decision. The three objects that I feel represent me best are a basketball, which represents my love for the sport; a stethoscope, which symbolizes my dream of being a neurosurgeon; and a book, which represents my love for all types of literature. Although these three objects may seem irrelevant or unimportant to others, they are what make me, Eric Markarian. The first object that represents me is a basketball, since it has been my favorite…
