Functionalists view society as a system that works by balance and equilibrium. British social theorist, Herbert Spencer, held an evolutionary perspective concerning social order and social change (13). Karl Marx, a German economist and philosopher, stated the past is a continuous conflict between contradicting ideas and forces (10). For example, everyday people compete and focus on the low supply of money, territory, jobs, power, and natural resources. Marx believed through class conflict, social change would occur and make society better (10). In addition, the Conflict Perspective belief is the rich perpetuate an unfair system that works to their advantage, while those at the bottom of society have little opportunity to improve their situation due to those at the top holding all the political and economic power. I don’t believe conflict perspective is true to our society, because people who are lower class should not be equal to the higher
