Three Social Needs Of Air Pollution

Improved Essays
After analysis of three main social needs I chose one priority need which was support with Air Pollution. I chose this because I couldn’t find any social enterprises that support this social need. However, there are many people who are being effected by the air pollution in Southall and some are unaware of the effects of this.
The social enterprise needed to meet this social need is a supportive group that will educate others on the health problems and environmental damage air pollution has.
The social enterprise I will set up will be called Think Eco Friendly. It will have two co-founders, myself, who will manage the enterprise, and my partner, who is a trained environmental air health officer. Both of us will take a salary from the business but, apart from this, all proceeds will be directed back into the community.
My business will be located in Southall.
The three social objectives of my business are:
1. To reduce CO2 and NO2 emissions by 15% by the end of 2018
2. To work with Ealing Hospital to reduce the number of asthma attacks in Southall amongst young people aged 0-25years (this segment is more susceptible to lung ailments).
3. To make Southall a more environmentally friendly destination for families to want to move into the local area. We will work

There are decisions being made whether there should be a third runway for Heathrow, which would of course cause a massive increase in air pollution in the Southall and hownslow area. I don’t think they should build another runway in Heathrow as the current Heathrow airports are already highly developed. Instead they should build a runway in Gatwick or Stanstead airport as this will open up new jobs for people and as a whole will reduce pollution in Southall as people will be traveling out of London and because of the many building, factories and car congestion in London there is a serious amount of air pollution

Air Pollution Policy and Controversy Rachel Carson boldly warned the American people in 1962 that if the United States continued its agricultural and industrial practices, songbirds would cease to exist. Losing an important part of the ecological food chain would have repercussions, possibly worse than we could imagine. While literature like Silent Spring helped bring attention to environmental concerns in the mid to late 1900s, several fatal disasters struck a stronger chord. Smog in Pennsylvania and the fire-lit Cuyahoga, for example, illustrated just how dearly the environment needed policy reform.…

Human activities are a major source of air pollution in our cars, trucks, and other forms of transportation do a great deal to pollute in the air. The book, Pollution Opposing Viewpoints, claims that there are varieties of ways that influence air pollution, but “the most common contaminants come from burning of petroleum hydrocarbon, the using of pesticides and industrial and domestic discharges due to those contaminants entering into the environment” (Roleff 26). The Pollution Prevention Act of 1990 relates to sustainability because it focuses on the “industry, government, and public” to extend a helping-hand. It’s to explain and show if we “reduce the amount of pollution in production, operation, and raw material use than cost-effective changes” will occur. At some points, these possibilities aren’t recognizable due to current settlements and modern resources which target treatment and disposal. State programs for helping with prevention of pollution are proposing options to businesses that are seeking reduction by funding and training them with techniques. Finally, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) explains how they support several programs with accommodating “businesses, organizations, communities,…
