I have decided to apply for my first teaching position. “All teaching involves working closely with students, but how we interact with them and the challenges and rewards we’ll encounter differ significantly from level to level”, Kauchak, D., &Eggen, P. Prior to deciding to pursue a teacher working with Kindergarteners, I weighed out both the advantages and disadvantages of being a teacher. Therefore, I understand that there are several rewards and challenges a teacher will face. In the following paragraphs I will explain three rewards and three challenges that I will face as a teacher. I am aware that teachers often face challenges, so therefore, it is vital that I love what I do. Increasingly demanding curriculum is one challenge that I suspect to face when I become a teacher. Another challenge that I expect to face as a teacher is lack of parental guidance. Also, dealing with consistent behavior issues is a challenge that I will face as a teacher. Even though, I am aware of these challenges becoming a factor in my career as a teacher, I am not discouraged because I know that challenges present themselves in every aspect of life. “Curriculum is everything that teachers teach and students learn in school”, Kauchak, D., &Eggen, P. (2008). The School Curriculum in an Era of Standards. In Introduction to Teaching: Becoming a Professional (5th ed. P. 535). Upper Saddle River, N.J.: PH/Merrill/Pearson. Grading papers, creating a lesson plan, creating classwork and homework, testing, teaching new subjects, etc. are all curriculums that I have to perform. I will use instruction to overcome this challenge by maintaining structure. For example, I will create a schedule and within my schedule I will list all of my demands that must be met on a daily basis. I will include the dates, times, and task at hand in my calendar. I would use this schedule as if it was a mapped out instruction manual to my day. Making a schedule not only helps me to get all my errands done, but it maps out my day and instructs me to do specific tasks at specific times on specific dates. It also helps me to keep a clear mind and not become overwhelmed with several demands to meet at one time. Instead the calendar would instruct me to perform specific tasks at appropriate times. Second of all, lack of parental involvement is another challenge that I would have to face becoming a teacher. I will use instruction to overcome this challenge by creating “at-home” activities that involves both the parent and child. For example, I would send home a
