I am honored and excited to be considered for the National Junior Honor Society. I would love to be a part of this organization because it would provide opportunities for me in the future. Also it can give me a sense of community. I can promote all of the NJHS tenets but I am only going to write about service, character and scholarship. I feel I already work hard at exhibiting these principles in my everyday life.…
One of the main community service events is working the concession stands at the Rutgers University football games. Through the games I learn very valuable lessons that will help me through life. One of the main lessons is people skills. During the games all type of people come to the concession stand. You have to deal with those people and handle their…
I have donated time in my city, state, country and internationally. Through the many opportunities that I have had for community service, I have been able to broaden my views, and look outside my community at how others experience our world. I have visited very diverse communities ranging from the inner city of Detroit, MI to a small, economically depressed village in Honduras, to the mountains of Pennsylvania and inside homes very different from mine in my own…
The Tanglewood Walk For Wishes Madison Mascorro Yellow Class By it’s very definition service is an act of helpful activity or aid. Service is best summed up by what Mahatma Gandhi once said, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” To me the project I participated in serves this definition and quote well.…
I was able to volunteer at a local bank that was sponsoring the Lake Park Elementary School for the holiday season. The school has over 300 underprivileged students between the ages of kindergarten and fifth grade. Most of the students at that school only have one meal per day. Along with other volunteers, I packaged bags that contained candy, toys, toiletries, a blanket, and a pair of athletic shoes. The bags were able to provide the children with goods that we often take for granted.…
The charity I chose is called “Flan-tastic” Animal Shelter. A co-worker of mine passed away a few year ago so the company started a charity in recognition of her with all proceeds going to a local animal shelter since she loved animals. I chose ten friends from work since they are the easiest to access because we work with each other every day. The favors I performed was as follows: 1. Walk to other end of the building to get water and ice for one of my coworkers.…
Throughout this semester I performed a total of 12 hours of service. In March, I completed 2 hours of service at the Friends for the Future Phone-a-thon. At the Phone-a-thon, I was able to give back to our school by connecting with and thanking people who generously donated to Friends for the Future. Afterwards, I performed the Spiritual Work of Mercy, pray for the living, by praying for the people who donated to our school. I chose this service because I love giving back to my school.…
Our class discussions and the Zelenski chapter on Happiness distinguish between Eudaimonia and hedonia as potentially different motivations, routes, or forms of well-being. This week, choose one small activity that seems eudaimonic (mostly about being your best self) and another that seems more hedonic (mostly about pleasure). Do them both. For the written portion of the assignment, write a short essay (250-300 words) that: briefly describes the activities, and why/how you identified them as eudaimonic or hedonic.…
For my random act of kindness, I chose to help some individuals with special needs. My father is an Athletic Director and special education teacher at the AGWSR middle school. He has to deal with kids that have special needs in school. I decided that my random act of kindness was to take the Friday of fall break and go to the middle school and help my father with the special needs kids.…
Saint Francis performed many acts of charity and service to the people he encountered within his lifetime. His life was based upon serving other. Although in his early life he did not care for the needs of others, as he grew older he saw the importance and worth of every life. Every person that Saint Francis encountered mattered to him. He saw the greatness in all creation as he truly believed that all creation was God’s creation.…
I have worked at a skatepark that offers family friendly amusement for our community. When it is not football season, Friday and Saturday nights are incredibly popular for the youth of Madison to come to our facility to roller skate and play games. We also cater corporate events and birthday parties. For catering events, you obviously must make sure to have plenty of food ready to please the large amount of people. Since a large amount of food is required, there is usually a surplus the employees may eat after, then we dispose of what is left.…
Throughout high school I volunteered at the Night Nation Music Festival, which is a festival that has partnered with Stand Up To Cancer to help raise money for people with this condition. In addition to this, I have volunteered for PBS Kids. As a volunteer, I was in charge of fixing the set for a live broadcast that was going to go live. I have volunteered at other places such as Houston Food Bank. As of volunteering while in college, so far I have only volunteered at senior homes.…
Masonic Essay Throughout my life I have done many things that have helped my community, including cleaning highways, helping out at a recycling center, cleaning underneath bleachers after a football game, and much more. I am in a group called LEOS, which stands for Leadership, Experience, Opportunity, and Service. In this group I have helped out in more ways than I could have ever imagined. There are many reasons why one may like doing community service, for me it is knowing that I made a difference to someone else and seeing the world be just a little bit better.…
Service creates the perfect avenue of benefit someone else’s life in a potentially significant manner without expecting anything in return. Most of my service involvement in the Waco community through my first of college was through AMSA. I have volunteered consistently at retirement homes and Caritas. This past spring semester, I took a class called Poverty in Waco which exposed me to…
Helping out is the best thing that anyone can do for other’s that really needs the help. I also did another good deed for someone. I helped them carry a bag upstairs to their room, they had a lot of things in their hands so I carry a grocery bag to make it easier for them. I performed this particular good deed because if I was struggling with something I would want someone to help me, even if I didn’t ask. Like I have said in the beginning, helping others is a good thing, in general, to do.…
