The farms and other crops, in which we are getting our food from are mostly looking for migrant workers. This is because they can pay these migrants much less than what others would be required to be paid for this type of labor in this type of economy. These workers check comes to around fifty or seventy dollars a week as I have previously stated. In the documentary “The Harvest” Zulema, a 12-year-old migrant worker, states that she received a check for sixty-four dollars. She has been working crops since about six to seven years of age. She has started work to help her mother and grandmother pay bills, afford food and other things for the family members. Most of the workers in these fields or crops are Mexican-born or of Mexican-American descent. The two other child workers are also of Mexican descent. They can be either mothers, fathers, grandparents, or children. This is because usually most of them live in the same homes and all want to help with the costs of living. Another tough thing about being a migrant crop worker is that you must travel frequently to find work. This means these workers travel at least once or twice in a year, every year. People always looked at me like “aw poor thing, I’m sorry you don’t have anything” and they went about their day. This is sad to continue to have to see others in these positions. Another concept that is important taken from this film is these children and families core values. All three of the children in the film “The Harvest” have very similar if not the same core values. First, let us define the term core values. Core values are the most important things in someone’s life, and they are things that help to dictate a person’s actions and behaviors in life. Let us look at Zulema. Some of her core values are God, her family and significant others, and her appearance. Then let us look at Victor’s. His are once again, God, his family and significant others, and helping his family live comfortably. Next, let me introduce you to Perla. She is 14 years old and helps her mother and father by working. Some of her main values are God, her family and significant others, school and her appearance. This can be discussed further when you begin to think about their self-image, self-esteem and their looking
