Three Parenting Styles

There are a variety of parenting styles that can affect the child in a number of different ways. The style that parent chooses have a great impact on the outcome of the child and can lead to delinquent acts whereas there are other styles that give children a positive outcome. The three parenting styles include authoritarian, authoritative, and permissive.
Parents who take the authoritarian route are the most strict towards their children. They have very high expectations of their children and expect them to follow all rules, no questions asked. It is said to be like a dictatorship since all rules must be followed or there will be consequences. There are plenty of negative outcomes to this parenting style which are that the children tend to become aggressive, they grow up having low self-esteem, they will struggle to make their own decisions, and they will become resentful to their parents. It has been proven that authoritarian fathers have increased the risk of juvenile delinquency due to their dictatorship style (Hoeve et al., 2011). Just like authoritarian, they do have high expectations however, they are open to communication and are supportive and understanding towards their children and know that there is nothing wrong with making mistakes and help them get back on track into the right direction. They also strive to teach their children the concept of independence so that they will not be constantly reliant on their parents and others in the future (Hoeve et al., 2011).
