No one likes to look foolish, especially in front of a lot of people, especially, in front of a lot of people who always laugh at you and who hate you already. Course, everyone tries their hardest to make everyone like them, but sometimes people go way too far to impress others so they will quit laughing at them. In the story Shooting an Elephant, George Orwell has been hated, laughed at and picked on by the Burmans and when it came time to shooting down the elephant that had terrorized the town because it was “must” time and was able to break out of its chains. When an elephant is in “must” they can get very aggressive and are unapproachable and if approached can and most likely will kill anyone who is stupid enough to approach the elephant. The decision that he made was a very sad one, he killed the elephant and served not just “justice”, but a meal for all the people in the village. Course, since it was such a big animal it didn’t die so easily, in fact, even after he shot it so many times it didn’t die no matter what or where he shot the elephant the elephant didn’t die, it just kept on breathing and breathing. When he couldn’t take seeing it suffer any longer he left and let the Burmans take over the elephant. When all was said and done, he thought about the elephant and slowly regret started to course through his veins. “In the end, I could not stand it any longer and
