Heat can also be transferred without the presence of any particles. This transfer is called infra-red radiation. This is a form of heat transfer by the means of heat from the sun or a hot object. Radiant heat can be absorbed into a surface, transmitted through a surface or reflected off a surface. An example of reflection is heat being radiated onto a tinted window and being reflected off again. This reduces the amount of heat entering the house allowing it to be cooler on hot days.
Infrared radiation is a type of electromagnetic radiation. Infrared light is a part of the electromagnetic spectrum that …show more content…
Thermal radiation varies in wavelength from long wavelengths being infrared, to the invisible light spectrum to the shortest ultraviolet rays. The strength and distribution of radiant energy is ruled by the temperature of the emitting surface. The rate at which a body radiates or absorbs thermal radiation depends upon the type of the surface as well. Objects that are good emitters of thermal radiation are good absorbers. Black matt objects emit and absorb heat extremely well but if the same surface was silver it would be a bad emitter as well as a bad
