While there’s certainly no paucity of perplexing problems pervading our policy in the status quo, three key issues, stretching from the realms between everyday life and geopolitical thought, are paramount in the context of ensuring the development and protection of US interests. Counterbalancing belligerent actors in Asia, decoupling economic development from emissions, and perpetuating the protections offered by the Constitution are issues for the United States today, tomorrow, and for the decades to come.

Consider the ex parte trials by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, targeted killings of American Citizens, and the recent revelations stemming from the Senate Intelligence Committee’s report on CIA torture. Pervasive threats at home and abroad have eroded at the protections and liberties offered by the Constitution. By sacrificing our ideals to accomplish our goals, we become like our enemies. Only upon improving the situation within our borders can we also influence the world outside it. In the long term, I plan on breaching the upper echelons of any of the three branches, a trailblazer for Asian Americans. If I can’t make it to the very top, I’ll aspire to inspire the future generation of Asian Americans in government. When I’ve outlived my use in the world of politics, I would like to work for the Red Cross as a first responder and concurrently as a photojournalist, possibly as a war photographer. Dangerous?
