Three Empty Words

All it takes is two simple words: it's over. As Bitterness, frustration, and confusion flooded my vision, I stood there not wanting to hear the rest. Breakups happen to the best of us, but that does not make it any easier. Shawn Mendes has been through moments like this as well, showing the vulnerable side to him in his second album Illuminate. As Mendes walks his listeners through the album, he exposes how he feels, thinks, and acts towards his recent relationship. Illuminate is inspirational to many young women who are going through their first heartbreak, with Mendes’ music by their side.
Most people know a few of his hits, “Stitches”, “I Know What You Did Last Summer”, and now, “Treat You Better” but not his name. At 15 years old, Mendes

From the very beginning, he tries to win back his girl while she has already moved on with someone else. His efforts to get her back do not go as planned, ending with them try to be friends instead, until he decides that isn't enough for him. He continues to convince her he is the only one for her. By song four, he leads into “Three Empty Words”.
“Three Empty Words” expresses how a relationship can change from being in love to “filling awkward spaces” (Mendes, 2016) when you are together because things are not the same as they were before. The relationship is ending and you both know it, causing the breakup to be mutual, but no less painful. This happens sometimes, but most often the other person feels blindsided. When that happens, there are a few steps that can be taken to ensure the breakup is carefully heading forward.
Kali Roger (2015) says it perfectly, the best way to handle a breakup is to “Talk it out. Get sad. Get angry. Reflect.” Taking space from the other person is the best thing you can do at first. It may be challenging because of school and friends, especially when you live in a small town where anyone knows everything about

This someone will probably “treat you better” than you ex “who's just not right for you” ever could. Right now it seems like he was the one. The one you were supposed to be with. But in order to find your actual prince charming, you have to go through the wolves in sheep’s clothing. The one that “won't lie to you”, and will “give you the loving” that you don't even realize you're missing (Mendes 2016). A breakup can throw your entire physiology out of whack, disrupting your sleep, appetite, body temperature and heart rate (Singh, 2013). That is why it is important to make sure you are follow those steps to help you and your body relax and heal over time. While you work on building yourself back up, just remember everyone goes through this, even Mendes. Hopefully his input and perspective on heartbreak can help you mend your own. Everyone knows breakups are hard, but everyone also knows that you have to just pick yourself up and put yourself first right now. This is not the end of the world. This is not the end of you. So pick yourself up, listen to Shawn, and get ready to start falling in love all over

Drake uses pathos throughout this song. Pathos is a way to make people feel pity or sympathy for you. Pathos is used within the song because he is telling how the girl is treating him now and he’s having a hard time accepting the fact. The girl once looked up to Drake, but now that he has risen to fame, she decides that she wants something different in life. He uses pathos within these particular lines "everybody knows and I feel left out," "girl you got me down, you got me stressed out," and "you used to call me on my cell phone/late night when you need my love."…

Throughout this semester, my favorite essay that I have written has been about Twitter. In this assignment, we were instructed to use one, or all of the articles that we were discussing in class and analyze it, linking it to a website of our choice. In the beginning, the idea of writing an essay about Twitter seemed a bit ridiculous, especially when it was required to link it to an academic article. However, through brainstorming I was able to come up with the question: “Does Twitter make us stupid?”…

My boyfriend of three years broke up with me; my heart was shattered like a mirror on the ground, cracked and pieces missing. I never thought that this would affect me so much. I couldn’t let everyone see how upset I was, so I hid my emotions behind a fake smile that no one ever knew existed. That is where all my problems started; something started to grow inside of me like an embryo of a new unborn child. Slowly but surely I sank into a dark abyss of depression.…

In Kitchen Table Wisdom, Dr. Rachel Remen offers countless stories demonstrating the importance of creating a medical environment that fosters intimacy, vulnerability, and a willingness to accept the hardest moments of human life. In Remen’s book, these moments all center around death and dying. Through storytelling, Remen is able to illuminate the hidden stories and feelings associated with death, the uncertainty of death, and the fear of losing a loved one. Remen demonstrates that only by breaking away from the bureaucratic and emotionless medical narrative, and instead, by simply offering open ears and a hand to hold for those who are most afraid, can create a sense of inner-peace and an acceptance of death for those dying of terminal illnesses.…

Feministic Perspective to Drake’s “Hotline Bling” In 2015, a phenomenon spurred amongst the women of social media, centering the rapper, saying, “Drake wouldn’t treat me this way.” It may be a valid inference given that most of Drake’s most popular songs center around women, absent of the traditional misogyny assigned rap. His career as a singing-rapper also has given him a softer effect than the traditional, hardened, early 2000s view of hip hop rappers. He is a Jewish, Canadian rapper which still thrives in a “hardcore” area of music with is constant appeal to women.…
