Diabetes has become an epidemic in the United States of America, and in many revolving countries around the world. There are about three different types of diabetes known. The main types of diabetes are gestational, type one, and type two. Diabetes Mellitus Type 1 is known as chronic autoimmune disease. This means that the body is self-killing its own beta cells found in the pancreas. These beta cells create inulin, which is a peptide hormone that helps control glucose in your blood. Now you may be asking your self what is diabetes and what does it do to your body, well Diabetes mellitus “ is the condition brought about by decreased insulin production or the inability of the body cells to use the insulin properly” (Limmer, O’Keefe Emergency care 13th edition). Diabetes is not curable, but there are a couple of ways you can take care of it like doing exercise, managing your diet, and taking medications. But there are medications they can take, or in this case insulin pumps and insulin injections. Low blood glucose can create hypoglycemia in the patient and this happens to human bodies because the body does not produce enough insulin, or simply because the cells do not respond to the insulin that is being produce. The body will treat the insulin creating cells as a foreign body and will begin apoptosis. A process that kills its own health cells due to the disease. The reason for this is not know at this point, but there are doctors and scientists looking for the cure to diabetes. Insulin is a hormone that helps maintain glucose homeostasis in the blood, but there are no insulin producing cells in the pancreas. This will cause the body to go into hypoglycemia.
