As mentioned earlier, there are three different perspectives of conflict such as Traditional, Interpretive and Critical. In Cross-Cultural Claims on Devils Tower National Monument, the perspective presented is the traditional, thereby researchers and organizational trainers focus on strategies, styles and communications choices, and processes to have the best resolution and an effective decision (Papa, Daniels & Spiker, 2008). The traditional perspective, first evaluates how both parties deal with conflict, in other words, which conflict style they have. Second, it demonstrates a competence-based model to have a productivity and effective process. Third, it shows how a groupthink can cause a negative impact during the resolution process. Another style is the collaborating, where the person cares for personal goals and for relationships, and also he or she will work hard to get a solution where both sides can win. The last style is compromising, where a individual or group has a moderate level of concern for personal goals and for relationships, however, in this style both sides have to give up on something in order to get the best solution, where both sides can have anything in return (Papa et al, 2008). Based on these explanations, it is possible to conclude that in the case, both climbers and American Indians had the compromising style. In the beginning of the dispute, American Indians did not want climbers and visitors at the Devils Tower during the entire year, and on the other side, climbers did not want to stop their activities at all. In the end, both of them gave up on their main complaints and decided on a voluntary ban during the summer solstice.
