A Story can have many themes, and as we know, there are tons of stories on the world, so it is inevitable that some stories share common themes. For this essay, I would try to do a comparative study on Lenny Abrahamson movie “Room” (original stories by Emma Donoghue) and “Pillowman”, a play wrote by Martin McDonagh, as they both investigated a lot in humanity and taught us a life lesson. In Pillowman, Katurian are arrested by Tupolski and Ariel because there are some children die in the ways in his story. But then Katurian defends that “The first duty of storyteller is to tell a story” (McDonagh, 2003) and he is not trying to say “Go out and murder children” (McDonagh, 2003), claiming that he should not be arrested just because the murder case look like his stories. This case clearly show that the freedom of writing of Katurian is being limited, and Katurian do not like it. Similar case happened in Room, Old Nick imprison Ma by no reason, taking always her freedom, and Ma always wanted to leave the room, for example, she once hiding behind the door and attempting to knockdown Old Nick in order to escape, and she do also plan for Jack to escape. It do also clearly show that the freedom of Ma is being limited and she do not enjoy it either. This two case in Pillowman and Room clearly show us it is not right to deprive other’s freedoms or

Saying something such as this may not make sense right now, but it is a very important thing that everyone needs to know. These pieces of writing also show us that there isn’t always a happy ending for everyone because of people who have power over other people.…

Summer in Samarkand and Shipping Out are both autobiographical essays that use a reflective style to narrate the travelling adventures of the respective authors’ lives. Both Wallace and Batuman colourfully describe the situations they are in and the people they are around, and both relate their experiences with humorous incites and references. The similarities in genre and description and even topic are fairly obvious in these two essays, but the overall tone and detail attention diverge greatly. This divergence is a result of completely different content and purpose between the essays, and although at first the essays appear very similar, a deeper glance reveals a strong contrast between the two.…

It is no secret that some stories are very similar to each other in plot and theme. “What we talk about when we talk about love”, written by Raymond Carver, and “What we talk about when we talk about Anne Frank”, written by Nathan Englander, is no exception. While these two stories are similar, they both have differences. In order to find these similarities and differences, we need to look at the plots of the stories and the characters involved with their respective stories. This is going to be done by first laying out the plots for each story and the characters in it, then talk about how the two stories are similar and lastly, talk about how the stories differ from each other.…

Obsessed: Looking at the Link between the Bedroom and Obsession in the 1001 Nights “Hunchback Tale” Obsession is a key element of the outer frame story of the 1001 Nights; it is most notably seen in the ritualistic telling of stories each night. Therefore, it is no surprise that obsession appears as a linking theme in one of the enframed stories. In particular, the “Hunchback Tale” has the Christian’s, Inspector’s, and Doctor’s stories all containing an obsession over one particular individual. This individual, in turn, is associated with the bedroom.…
