This new bill would save Roosevelt's new deal but weekend the judicial branch's independence because, it would add a new justice for every one that was over the age of 70 and a half. Which is a power that the Executive branch has the power to do and the number of supreme justices can be changed because in article three of the constitution it never sets a number of justices. Roosevelt told the public that it would help with the supreme court's overload of cases but the majority of citizens saw it for what it was, a way for Roosevelt to take control over the judicial branch and save the new deal from being broken apart. Many people even supporters of Roosevelt thought this bill was wrong and would lead to the destruction of the three branches. There has been many changes in the number of set justices so changing it was not the problem that people had with the judicial reform plan proposed by roosevelt. If that same plan was proposed by an earlier president who wasn't constantly getting checked by the supreme court it could have passed, but because it was known that Roosevelt had a disliking for the beliefs the majority of the justices had and some of his acts that were apart of the new deal were getting checked the public knew this was a way for Roosevelt to grab more power and ruin the system set up by the
