THHS gave me direct opportunities to productively learn how leadership skills can and does make a difference within and beyond our school community.
Junior year, I quickly learned about the democratic system’s method of trying to give a voice to everyone when I was elected as THHS’s Borough Student Advisory Committee Representative. I was honored that I was then designated as the Chancellor’s Student Advisory Council Representative, where I became the Chairperson.
In facilitating monthly Department of Education (DOE) Headquarters meetings with student representatives and NYC officials, I learned the importance of organized communication as I was required to enforce Robert Rules of Order. It …show more content…
I lead my revision team to focus on increasing family-school partnerships to ameliorate household influence on students’ educations. In fencing, I taught inexperienced underclassmen to trust and the need for a truly cooperative team to hone professional level skills in a daring ancient art while improving my own ability levels. The sheer fun I find in the sport and art of fencing has compelled me continue training at MIT to bring greater skills back to Townsend Harris. Academic biological research began for me at THHS in my science research elective. The class eventually led to my larger outreach, landing me opportunities for professional level work. My medical research is immensely important to me because it is my way of directly giving back to the scientific community at large, and will likely remain my primary avenue of scientific service until I gain a medical
