Technology has helped humankind move forward but even then we use it to destroy ourselves. In The Watchers people on Mars had been sitting on their porches enjoying the night when they saw Earth explode. A war had begun on Earth. Bradbury says, “At nine o’clock Earth seemed to explode, catch fire, and burn. The people on the porches put up their hands as if to beat the fire out. They waited. By midnight the fire was extinguished. Earth was still there”(144). The phrase, “At nine o’clock Earth seemed to explode, catch fire, and burn,” shows that the people of Earth had begun their war using bombs. It was a very powerful bomb because it could be seen from Mars. The flames lasted hours before it disappeared, “By midnight the fire was extinguished,”

Technology has been able to give us the option of withdrawing troops in war and instead use drones. These drones are able to bomb the enemy and are controlled by people who are nowhere near the combat area. The author writes, “Vijay Prashad, [...] argues that this type of technology is likely to produce outrage fuel retaliation and increase terrorist operations”(The Threat of Drones Ushering ‘Invisible Wars’). The phrase, “increase terrorist operations,” is something that really pops out in this article. We have found a way to fight in war without having to lose soldier in combat but because of that we put ourselves in danger. Yes, the drones offer the families of soldiers to not have to worry about the death of their loved one but the soldiers know what could happen. In a way they are prepared for the worst. If the drones were sent out and maybe hacked because there is no rider in them they could be used against us and innocent people die. Or the drones are copied by another nation, such as the ones that we use the drones on and out of rage they use it against us.
