Those people who don’t fight evil fight Statues This article was probably written under the hand of a far-right author. In this article, he clarifies that the left wings are fighting the wrong, made up evils. He claimed that the left wings protect the evils that everyone else is fighting. Quoted by Dennis Prager, “rather than fighting evil, the left fights those who fight evil”. He also stated that any other individuals who does have moral clarity cannot be a leftist. The vibe that the other is giving to me is the left wings are just doing things to protect their images and dignity. I think the article is very bias, since his point of view only bashes onto the lefts. The examples that he uses showed how the left side

Sirota Shortly before the controversial billboard was taken down just a couple of days later, an article written by David Sirota, titled “ Kenneth Cole Gets Schooled” appeared in the liberal political and current affairs website, Salon. In this writing, he criticizes the fashion designer Kenneth Cole and his company’s use of adopting a slogan that dealt with a national debate over unions, particularly teachers, in hopes of capitalizing off of the public’s reaction and response. By exploring the factors that explains the formation of the union such as the education system and accountability, Sirota’s article displays a firm but biased and partial argument in the importance of unions and their role in the education system. A strength within the essay lies in his varied choice of rhetorical strategies.…

In David Brooks’ article “Fly the Partisan Skies” (2004), he mocks the often wholly ridiculous, bimodal stereotypes which conservatives and liberals hold of each other. Brooks elucidates these absurd political prejudices by creating an analogy in which each party represents an airline (“Liberal Air” and “Right Wing Express”) equipped with all the extreme stereotypes (“moral vanity used as a personal device”, “Hummer-brand planes”) associated with each party. Using overly-exaggerated stereotypes in order to divulge the arbitrary and wholly unnecessary nature of bipartisan animosity, Brooks urges conservatives and liberals alike to re-evaluate both their negative views of each other as well as their justifications for said views. Brook’s immediate…

Thank you for your comments on my analysis. Here are my thoughts. Using an ethos appeal, Ken Herman uses his status as a prevalent journalist for a major daily newspaper in Austin, the capital city of Texas to garner credibility for his “opinion” of the December 2016, Austin City Council election and to perpetuate the “Austin American-Statesman’s” preferred political ideologies in society. After reading Herman’s article, it is obvious the “American-Statesman’s” political ideology leans left. Although Herman makes these liberal views known throughout his article, he carefully constructs his opinion article with the selling of the newspaper in mind.…

Every person possesses opinions or beliefs which shape and mold his or her political ideology. In today’s American society, political ideologies have split into a rift unlike any other in 21st Century America. While most Americans still identify as politically moderate, the divide between the far left and center and the far right and center continue to expand. The groups at each end of the spectrum have developed into radical factions, much to the dismay of the Americans in the middle of the spectrum. In the past few decades alone, a group based on the ideas of white nationalism has emerged on the far right side of the political spectrum: the alt-right.…

The Frivolity of Evil In his article titled “the frivolity of evil,” Dr. Dalrymple admits that he has become preoccupied with the problem of evil. Specifically the evil found in the everyday actions of men. This brand of evil spreads through a community like a virus until no one is left untouched. Through the insight he has gained working as a prison psychiatrist, Dr. Dalrymple has been able to find the answers to the questions that occupied his mind for the past fourteen years” why do people commit evil, what conditions allow it to flourish, how it is best prevented?”…

(Quijano) asking “ 'why did he kill my son? '” and “ 'ask him [the president] what that noble cause was '” ( Quijano). These direct statements for the source herself, Cindy Sheehan, prove that Quindlen did not make a fallacy with her information, just with her choice of words/placement. Compared to Stokers article, Quindlen 's article appears full of emotional appeal to get her audience to join her in her 'Bush hating club '. This sharp contrast in Stoker 's article can be seen as he states, “When the…

So because my name was thrown around a few times, I just wanted to chime in: First, The Daily Tar Heel is not trash. I have worked in many newsrooms and I can say there is a decent effort on the news side to fully tell readers what is happening in Chapel Hill. Is every single story perfectly covered? By all means no. But honestly, I have yet to be part of an organization in which a story is done to perfection (this includes the Carolina Connection radio program, which I helped lead for one semester).…

Good Vs. Evil In The Road

Something that comes to mind when we think of a road is choices, the twists and turns that the road has are just like the perils that boy and his father have to face in this novel, the bitter cold, starvation, death and sickness. And of course roads remind us of forks in the road, the decision making turns, when we have to choose between going one way or another, choosing the right path or the wrong path just like the two sets of people in the book, the “good guys” who choose the right path of moral ethics and selflessness and the “bad guys” who choose the wrong path that leads to destruction and chaos. So the theme of good versus evil is very evident in this book. It highlights the worst things that we are capable of doing when we realize…

It took me a lot of searching to find articles with terms such as left and right, and they were only about non-American politicians. Macedo pointed out that this 'erasure of language' deprives the reader of the mental tools to form an objective opinion. The use of more neutral-sounding terms seeks to tone down extreme political stances and make them seem more central, less polarized, acceptable by a larger group. Manipulating language is a means to manipulate and disorientate people, so the reader must be aware of these 'tricks' in order to form an objective…

Critique: “Death of the Liberal Class” In his book, “Death of the Liberal Class”, Pulitzer Prize winner Chris Hedges dissects the gradual decay of the liberal class. He examines and explains each aspect in which the liberal class failed to uphold – or even fight to preserve – its primary values. He also passionately affirms his view of this neoliberal class, depicting them as a lapdog to the corporate power. They abandon the fight for the freedom, rights and safety of the people for corporate payouts and exceptional, selfish benefits.…

People often reject the unique, they look with a quirked eyebrow and a disfavouring eye on those who are different. In an unspoken agreement, the majority decided to don a negative attitude to the minority. Perhaps one of the most finespun, subtle discriminations in the world we live in today is that against the left; so inconspicuous is it, that most never realise its existence. Most would sneer, “how can there be discrimination against left? It’s just a direction, a handedness, an adjective,”, but ‘most’ are the unwittingly biased majority.…

Evil exists because we chose it to. We, as free agents can choose between right and wrong. Through this we can justify our actions. What kind of world would we lead if everything was already decided for us and all we would have to do is perform it? God, although knows how we will choose, plays absolutely no role in our process of choosing.…
