Thor Heyerdahl, a Norwegian explorer and scientist, went on a quest across Pacific Ocean in 1947 along with five other scientists in hopes of proving his theory that people from Polynesia originated in the east and not west. Apart from his historic expedition for learning, he also wrote a book about his journey in which he won an academy award for in 1951. It was April 28, 1947 when Heyerdahl and his crew began their voyage off the coast of Peru with the use of Kon-Tiki, a water vessel made from nine balsa wood logs tied together with a hemp rope. Kon-tiki was inspired by Inca rafts drawings of Spanish conquistadors. On July 30, Heyerdahl and his crew reached French Polynesia in Puka Puka, a coral atoll found in Cook Islands. They arrived at
