Thomas StoneWall Jackson was born midnight January 20-21 1824. Jackson grew up in what is now the state of West Virginia. Jackson was a confederate general during the American civil war. "His father, a lawyer named Jonathan Jackson, and his mother, Julia Beckwith Neale, had four children. Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson was the third born". At age 2 Jackson lost his father and older sister ,Elizabeth killed by typhoid fever. Thomas as a little kid lived the rest of his childhood with his father and brothers.

After a difficult childhood Thomas graduated from the New York U.S. Military Academy. Thomas worked hard and eventually met with academic success graduating in 1846. Thomas was sent to Mexico as a lieutenant with the first U.S.Artillery as the Mexican war was starting. He earned a reputation for toughness and bravery quickly. Around the war's end he

One of his fellow generals upon observing Thomas "Look men there is Thomas standing like a stonewall. Thomas was commissioned a general in 1861 October. Thomas established himself as a independent strong commander. He won plenty of victories on armies of the campaign.

In Thomas partnership with Lee started when Thomas joined his army in June 1862 and Thomas was determined to stay in heavy fighting in Virginia. At the second battle bull run his troops played key roles from August 1862 to May 1863. Thomas by October 1862 he was a Lieutenant General and led a good amount of general Lee's army. Thomas bravery inspired his soldiers to be brave just like him.

Thomas punished his soldiers for minor violations of discipline and really talked about his plans with them. The soldiers were expected to follow Thomas orders without question.
