Imagine living life off of nothing but coal and water, and having the energy to run at over 100 mph! This is what a steam train was capable of thanks to Thomas Savery, Thomas Newcomen, and James Watt for inventing and improving on the steam engine from 1698 to 1765. The steam engine decreased injuries and accidents from earlier steam inventions and made cooking and traveling much faster and safer.
In 1679 Denis Papin invented the pressure cooker, this idea of using a piston and cylinder sparked another idea for Thomas Savery. Thomas was born in 1650 in Shilston. He had a strong interest in philosophy, mechanics, and mathematics. Savery wanted to find a way to resolve the issue of getting water out of mine shafts.
