Thomas Root boarded his Cessna plane in Washington D.C. He took off at 6:33 am on July 20th, 1989. Root radioed that he was having chest pains and difficulty breathing. The Air Force sent out a rescue plane for Thomas Root. The Cessna dropped 10,000 feet from the sky, the rescue plane was right above Root’s plane, the Cessna crashed into a river. But, Root survived but he was dealing with more than they knew about. Root had fractured ribs (that’s why he had breathing problems) and he had three bullet wounds from a gun!
