Thomas Pierce's Essay 'To Fall In Love With Anyone, Do This'

We, humans are created as social beings; therefore we have a desire to develop connection with other humans. This relationship we establish with others is essential for our survival and happiness. In every relationship one of the biggest problem is communication. However, learning to compromise with each other, and trying to understand each other’s point of view could be a solution for this. For instance, both could come up with a resolution where both sides are pleased. In the essay “To Fall in Love With Anyone, Do This”, a study teaches the narrator that it is possible to “generate trust and intimacy, the feelings love needs to thrive” (Catron 4). The study that the narrator speaks of is based on communication, and this proves that communication is a very powerful element that can make or break any kind of relationships. Lack of communication in a relationship, whether it is between family, friends, or a romantic relationship between couple, is one of the biggest problems that we usually face. In the story, “The Real Alan Gass” by Thomas Pierce, Claire and Walker’s relationship sets a perfect example on how communication is essential in building and maintaining a strong and healthy relationship. Their relationship worked out well because Claire decided to tell Walker about her dream from the very beginning.
