Explain the directions for the lesson activity to the students.

Directions: Students will read the Thomas Paine—Common Sense handout individually. (they will be given about 5-7 minutes)

After students are finished reading a class discussion will be held to clarify the meaning/argument Paine making. (Common Sense discussion questions are attached on a separate sheet) (allow about 5-10 minutes for Paine discussion)

Students will then read individually the rebuttal argument written by Loyalist Rev. Charles Inglis. (they will be given about 10-12 minutes)
