Thomas Jefferson's Influence On Education

Jefferson enhanced the political system through education and writing. Jefferson began to distinguish himself from the rest of the wealthy politicians by gaining a remarkable mentor. Jefferson was formally introduced to George Wythe when he attended the college of William and Mary. Under the practice of George Wythe, Jefferson began his political career by gaining a legal mentor. Wythe was a role model to Jefferson in regards to politics because he was a member of the House of Burgesses, and worked alongside the attorney general. Wythe enhanced his student’s understanding of law by introducing definitions to them, and applying them in real life situations. Because of the excessive writing the legal profession required, Jefferson acquired a skill in writing. The publishing of his novel, A Summary View of Rights of British America, initiated his eminent profession. Because of his eloquent writings, Jefferson gained the attention of highly spoken politicians. In his prominent novel, he explains that the British parliament illegally oppressed a nation that is not under their regulation. He further disclosed that since the thirteen colonies were created without the British parliament, it was independent of their ruling and unjust to do so. He specifically called out King George III on his extreme governing and regulation of a country that was not in his jurisdiction. Jefferson brought to light the inequitable administration by the British. He planted the seed of revolution in the minds of citizens in order for them to learn what exactly the British parliament was doing.
